Ho! Ho! Ho! - The Perfect Eggnog Recipe

Holiday cheer begins with the perfect recipe. Making our signature holiday beverage involves a combination of rich ingredients, proper technique, and, of course, a splash of spirits. Here's a simple recipe to make your holidays delicious and a bit more jovial:

Ingredients:

  • 6 large eggs, separated
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup bourbon (adjust to taste)
  • 1/2 cup dark rum (adjust to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg (plus extra for garnish)
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions:

Separate the Eggs:

  • Carefully separate the egg whites from the yolks. Place the yolks in one bowl and the whites in another.

Beat Egg Yolks with Sugar:

  • In the bowl with the egg yolks, add the sugar. Beat together until the mixture is smooth and the sugar is dissolved.

Add Milk, Cream, and Liquor:

  • Gradually add in the whole milk, heavy cream, bourbon, and dark rum while continuously whisking. Stir in the vanilla extract and ground nutmeg.

Chill the Mixture:

  • Cover the mixture and let it chill in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours or overnight. This allows the flavors to meld and the eggnog to become well-chilled.

Whip the Egg Whites:

  • In a separate bowl, whip the egg whites with a pinch of salt until stiff peaks form. This adds a light and frothy texture to the eggnog.

Combine Egg Whites with Chilled Mixture:

  • Gently fold the whipped egg whites into the chilled eggnog mixture. This step ensures a creamy and airy consistency.

Serve:

  • Pour the eggnog into glasses and sprinkle a little ground nutmeg on top for garnish.

Optional:

  • Not necessary, but it's nice to age your eggnog for a few days to allow the flavors to meld even further. If you choose to do this, keep it refrigerated.

Adjust the amount of bourbon and rum according to your personal taste preferences. The key is to strike a balance between the rich, creamy base and the warming, flavorful spirits. Enjoy your homemade adult eggnog responsibly!
